General Purpose

The Retail Associate ensures our Customers have a positive shopping experience. They greet Customers, maintain a clean work area, ensure proper merchandise presentation, and perform a range of tasks across store areas as needed to support customer service and store operations.

Essential Functions

  • Understand that safety is the number one priority and practice safe behaviors.
  • Maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment; keep egress clear and report unsafe conditions to Store Leadership.
  • Treat Customers and Associates with respect and courtesy; engage in friendly and professional interactions.
  • Assist Customers in merchandise questions, at the register, and with a courteous and knowledgeable approach; greet Customers with eye contact and a smile.
  • Provide prompt and efficient responses to Customer needs and service calls; involve Store Leadership when needed.
  • Represent and support the Company brand at all times.
  • Perform cleaning tasks and replenishment to maintain a neat store and clean restrooms and high-touch areas.
  • Maintain professional appearance and adhere to dress code.
  • Perform daily sizing and recovery to keep the store well-maintained and merchandised to standards.
  • Expedite newly received merchandise to the sales floor and present items per guidelines.
  • Understand Loss Prevention concepts and merchandise protection standards.
  • Safeguard confidential information, cash, and merchandise; demonstrate integrity and honesty as a Ross representative.
  • Follow MOS policies for identifying and processing MOS merchandise and notify leadership for disposals.
  • Follow cash handling and transaction procedures with accuracy and awareness.
  • Demonstrate urgency to maximize productivity and align with Store best practices.

Qualifications And Special Skills Required

  • Effectively communicate with Customers, Associates and Store Leadership in a friendly, respectful manner.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.

Physical Requirements/Ada

  • Ability to use all Store equipment, including PDTs, registers and PCs as required.
  • Ability to spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the Store.
  • Ability to regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
  • Ability to occasionally push, pull and lift more than 25 pounds.
  • Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders and other assigned supplies.
  • Associates who work Stockroom shifts: Ability to regularly push, pull and lift more than 20 pounds.
