High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience
Preferred Qualifications Class B CDL and 2 years in the construction field Position Summary This is an advanced position in Grounds Heavy Equipment. This incumbent is expected to assist Concrete Masons in the forming and placement of concrete. Employee serves as a spotter during excavation, assist in backfill and grading for curb, sidewalk, storm sewer installation and utility repair. The individual will check grade for asphalt and concrete placement. Candidate will use dump truck and be moderately proficient in the use of other heavy equipment such as but not limited to skid steer, backhoe, mini excavator and breaker for assistance in hauling as well as the use of other trades equipment. If the candidate does not possess a Class B CDL , they will be expected to complete the ELDT (Entry Level Driver Training) in-house course and acquire a CDL Learners Permit within six months. During this time, the candidate will be restricted to operating non-class B CDL equipment. The candidate will perform all other duties and responsibilities as outlined. Candidate is proficient with traffic control and assist as needed. Will perform other work as needed. This employee will report during inclement weather to assist with tasks such as snow and ice removal and clearing of downed trees. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies- Knowledge of construction practices/techniques including, but not limited to, concrete forming/placement, grading, and job site safety.
- Ability to perform manual labor as needed in support of construction activities.
- Ability to operate heavy construction equipment including, but not limited to, skid steers, backhoes, excavators, dozers, dump trucks and other equipment used in civil related construction projects.
- Stand, walk, bend, stoop, squat, work with hands.
- Lift up to 75 lbs during a normal 8-hour work shift.
- Work under adverse weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow).
- Driving as needed to perform job duties.
- Operates skid steer, backhoe, excavator, dozer, dump trucks, and other equipment in support of civil related construction projects (utility installation, grading/drainage, hauling, paving/sidewalk construction, etc.) as assigned.
- Excavates and installs utility piping and assists with utility repairs as assigned.
- Establishes elevations and sets base for new pavement construction.
- Assists in asphalt placement as well as the forming and placement of concrete.
- Set up and perform traffic control.
- Place and maintain barricades, cones and temporary signage.
