The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full-time Utility Maintenance Worker to support the operations of our Utilities - Distribution and Collections Construction division. Are you service-oriented? Can you thrive in a fast-paced environment?

The Utility Maintenance Worker earns a competitive salary of $18.31 - $19.82 per hour, based on experience and qualifications. The city covers all premiums for dental, long-term disability, and life insurance, and the majority of medical premiums for employees and dependents. We also offer a retirement plan through the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) with a 2:1 employer match, along with life insurance, disability insurance, access to the recreation fitness center, employee assistance program, educational assistance, 11 paid holidays plus 2 designated holidays, paid vacation, sick leave, and a wellness program.

A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A UTILITY MAINTENANCE WORKER

The Utility Maintenance Worker performs manual tasks related to the construction and repair of water distribution and wastewater facilities. The role involves working on construction projects, often in a utility capacity, transferring between tasks as needed, with minimal supervision.

Essential Functions:

  • Install valves, water lines, manholes, and sewer pipes.
  • Repair streets, sidewalks, curbs, and meters.
  • Assist in measuring distances from grade stakes.
  • Bolt, nail, align, and block forms.
  • Signal operators of construction equipment for proper alignment and movement.
  • Transport and organize materials for construction.
  • Position, join, align, and seal pipe sections.
  • Erect scaffolding, shoring, and braces.
  • Apply protective coatings and sealants.
  • Finish surfaces by grinding, sanding, or polishing.
  • Operate saws, dismantle forms, and perform site cleanup.
  • Check stock and prepare for upcoming jobs.
  • Maintain equipment and ensure safety and cleanliness of the work site.

Education, Experience, and Licenses:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1-3 months of related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
  • Class I Wastewater Certificate preferred or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
