Construction Maintenance Worker I – Street Department

Summary

Qualifications: Completion of secondary education or equivalent and experience performing heavy manual labor construction and maintenance tasks or the equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.

Equipment Operator: (The following are examples only and are not intended to be all-inclusive) Loader, dump truck, small roller, air compressor, chain saw, street saw, sewer jet and rodder, vac-all, mower, snow blower bucket truck, miscellaneous power tools.

Essential Functions of the Position:

• Perform construction, maintenance, and repair functions; operate motorized street sweeper; perform street construction work and curb and gutter improvements; operate street striping equipment; erect sign posts and signs; paint street markings; install non-electric traffic control devices; construct, repair and maintain catch basins, culverts, and bridges; build headwalls and piling; remove and install new bridge decks, flooring, supports, and rails; paint bridges, guard rails, buildings, and equipment with power sprayer or brush; prepare metal and wood for painting; operate farm type tractors with rotary mowing attachments; operate small power mowers; operate pickup truck to haul dirt, gravel, and debris, etc.; operate dump truck to haul gravel, asphalt, brick, fill dirt, and related materials; operate truck equipped with snow plow; cut, load, and haul trees; operate miscellaneous equipment to perform street-related work activities ; flag traffic at construction sites; operate miscellaneous power and hand tools; perform a variety of unskilled labor tasks requiring bending, lifting, stooping, pushing, and pulling to maintain roads and bridges; receive and respond to calls via two-way radio.
• Perform facility, equipment, and supplies functions.
• Perform emergency functions.
• Perform equipment/vehicle maintenance and repair functions; inspect and maintain assigned equipment.
• Perform record functions; maintain a record of work completed.
• May perform duties of Wastewater Collection CM I, a Water Distribution CM I, and/or a Parks Department CM I.

Experience

Licensure or Certification Requirements: Must possess or obtain a Commercial Driver’s License.
