ABOUT THE POSITION:
We are seeking a mid-level skilled and detail-oriented Construction Estimator to join our team.
As a Construction Estimator, you will be responsible for determining the total cost of construction projects ranging from $500K to $5M
Our ideal candidate has a strong understanding of the COMMERCIAL construction process, excellent mathematical skills.
MUST be a NY resident, preferably living within 45 miles of the Garden City office
MUST have 3-7 years of COMMERCIAL estimating experience
RESPONSIBILITIES
*Review RFP – including plans, specifications, sketches, design narratives, Addenda, etc.
*Attending pre-bid meetings, verify existing conditions, analyze factors that may affect constructability.
*Preparing bidders lists – custom tailored for each project, carefully selecting those subcontractors that are most appropriate for each project (and most likely to bid).
*Prepare detailed cost estimates for construction projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
*Analyze blueprints, plans, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
*Consult with clients, vendors, and personnel in other departments to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
*Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.
*Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
*Present prepared estimates for management to use in planning and organizing project budgets.
*Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors.
*Following up with subcontractors throughout the bidding period to keep communications open, gauge interest and field RFI’s.
*Analyze historical project data for application to current projects
*Conceptual estimating/preconstruction
*An understanding of BIM and how to read and assemble BIM models and produce appropriate reports from them
*Review scope definition & prepare quality survey or take off
*Identify critical issues that may impact cost sensitive areas
*Initiate inquiries for prices from sub trades and suppliers
*Managing workload to ensure adequate time and resources are earmarked for each respective project.
The Estimator will report to the Head of Estimating and the Director of Operations.
