Excavation Foreman – Construction Site Work | Layton Services
Location: Newark, OH (Projects throughout Columbus, Licking County & surrounding areas)
Position Type: Full-Time | Hourly | Field-Based
Compensation: $35–$45/hour (based on experience) + Bonuses + Full Benefits

Layton Services is seeking an experienced Excavation Foreman to lead site crews on a variety of commercial and residential site development projects across Central Ohio. We specialize in earthwork, trenching, utilities, storm sewer installation, and infrastructure construction, delivering high-quality results on time and safely.
This is a hands-on, leadership-focused role ideal for candidates with a strong background in excavation, heavy equipment operation, and team supervision.

Excavation Foreman Job Responsibilities:
Lead, organize, and supervise excavation/site work crews
Interpret and enforce civil plans, blueprints, and project specifications
Assign daily tasks and monitor crew performance and productivity
Conduct daily toolbox talks and safety meetings
Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, and operations leadership
Troubleshoot issues and resolve conflicts in the field
Track and report labor hours, materials used, and project progress
Maintain safe and proper use of heavy equipment and tools
Coordinate deliveries and manage on-site material inventory
Ensure adherence to OSHA safety regulations and company safety standards
Document and report any accidents or safety violations
Provide on-site training and mentorship to crew members
Qualifications & Skills:
Proven experience as a Foreman or Crew Lead in excavation, earthwork, or civil construction
High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (required)
Knowledge of:
Underground utilities (sanitary, storm, water)
Mass grading and site layout
Trenching and shoring practices
Heavy equipment operation (excavators, loaders, etc.)
GPS & laser layout systems
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, grading plans, and technical drawings
Proficiency with construction reporting and documentation tools
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities
OSHA 30-Hour Certification required (can be obtained after hire – provided by Layton Services)
