The Project Manager has a dual responsibility for accurately estimating jobs and for closely monitoring the job to ensure profitable projects. Prepare thorough and timely estimates for public agency grading, paving, underground and structures projects, including preparation of bid documents, written proposals and correspondence. Soliciting and evaluating subcontractor proposals and scopes of work. Key activities include qualifying leads, developing a deep understanding of project specifications and how to best address them, along with creating relationships with prospective clients. This role also requires accurate bid estimation, preparing proposals, closing projects, interpreting contractual agreements and verifying satisfactory job completion.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contract administration, accounting and forecasting.
  • Manage all required contract documents.
  • Manage all submittals to agency/owner.
  • Assist in supervision of field operations.
  • Organization of construction materials and delivery methods.
  • Manage costs and forecasting of each project.
  • Establish relationships with owner/agency.
  • Provide direction to field project engineers.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a high productive environment.

Related responsibilities:

  • Maintain records of project documentation and correspondence.
  • Reconcile vendor and subcontractor invoice discrepancies.
  • Ensure that necessary permits and approvals are received and required and inspections are scheduled.
  • Verify satisfaction of work completed, accuracy of billings, and confirm proper close-out.
  • Be knowledgeable of and comply with safety regulations.
  • Ensure the accuracy and detail of all data entered into Company database, and updates regularly as needed.
  • Maintain positive relationships with customers, contractors, suppliers and co-workers.
  • Display excellent multitasking skills while managing multiple projects.
  • Timely completion of all job-related paperwork.
  • Promote job site safety (encourages safe work practices and rectifies job site hazards immediately).
  • Close out projects per agreed upon schedule.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required in Construction Science or related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in utility and earthwork.
  • Display strong problem-solving skills with ability to analyze problems and make sound decisions in a timely manner based on objectives, risks, implications and cost.
  • Demonstrated decision making skills.
  • Maintain ability to work in high production environment.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Excellent supervisory communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Applications, Bluebeam and HCSS Heavy Bid-Job
  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively under pressure and deadlines.
  • Tactful and mature demeanor with well developed interpersonal skills including the ability to work well with diverse personalities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility: Ability to work in a number of diverse locations is pertinent, as work locations may change daily.
  • Expected Hours: Hours will vary by job, location and season. Working a night shift may be required.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Typical office environment with regular visits to construction sites (outdoors and indoors).
  • Sitting long periods at a desk using a computer.
  • At times may be on the phone for periods of time.
  • Some light travel.
