Homer Electric Association (HEA) is a member-owned electric utility serving the central and southern areas of the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. We are excited to be seeking a General Accountant to join our Finance team. This is a full-time position that will be located at our Homer office. This will be an hourly (non-exempt) position with typical work hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Duties And Responsibilities
This position will have an opportunity to work with our highly qualified and busy Finance team on the following:
- Responsible for maintaining General Ledger records in an audit ready status and for completing such additional audit reports as may be required to respond to audits involving all General Ledger accounts.
- Assists in the preparation of financial and statistical reports of the Association.
- Performs detailed account analyses and works on special projects as requested.
- Provides full back-up for payroll/general, payables/general and consumer accountants.
- Acts as the alternative contact for banking activities such as stop-payments, P-Card authorizations, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Associate's degree in accounting, or related field, required.
- Three years' general accounting experience, with emphasis in plant accounting. Equivalent education may be substituted.
- Two additional years of experience may be substituted for college requirements.
- Completion of the RUS Borrower Electric Accounting course is required.
- Knowledge of computerized accounting skills.
- Must submit a valid Alaska Driver's license and maintain a good driving record.
- Ability to retrieve and summarize accounting database information using computerized database/spreadsheet programs.
- Ability to operate a 10-key calculator with proficiency.
- Ability to apply rational thinking to solve practical problems and to comprehend instructions.
- Ability to mathematically add, subtract, multiply and divide, work with decimals and fractions, and understand/apply standard accounting theory and procedures.
- Ability to properly prepare the required forms and reports.
- Ability to communicate distinctly, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to receive guidance and supervision, follow work rules, safety practices, work procedures, and meet punctuality and attendance standards. Complete assignments in an accurate and timely manner.
