Job Summary
- The Accountant serves as a member of the Accounting Department and will report directly to the Controller. The Accountant is responsible for preparation and accuracy of the financial statements, performing analysis of financial results, providing explanation of variances and ensuring compliance with internal policies and generally accepted accounting principles and all other applicable accounting standards for HMG.
Essential Functions
Accounting:
- Prepare, maintain, and reconcile accounting records, financial statements, and financial reports
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts
- Perform various activities to support the month-end close process
- Prepare and verify journal entries to the general ledger
- Assist with annual audit and budgeting process
- Support Financial, Planning & Analysis team with determining financial details and drivers of reporting results
- Make monthly expense accrual entries and ensure the accuracy of expense coding and reporting
- Adhere to internal controls, policies and procedures for financial management; and oversight for the organizations
- Record and report on capital expenditure, project and fixed assets accounting and financial implications
- Maintain financial elements of the fixed asset sub-ledger (including additions and disposals)
- Record and ensure accuracy of monthly capitalization and depreciation entries and roll forward schedules
- Any other duties as assigned
Financial:
- Study financial trends to identify potential impact to the organization and identify drivers, root causes of results to share with management in monthly close reporting
- Assist with monthly financial reports by drafting comments and collecting, analyzing and summarizing financial data and trends
- Advise budget managers on their functional and brand results to assist them in understanding, managing, forecasting and budgeting their departmental expenses
- Support ROI evaluations
- Any other duties as assigned
Demonstrated Faith:
- Pray for coworkers in team meetings
- Lead prayer in large group settings as needed
- Pray for donors when called upon to do so
- Use Christian principles to work through conflict as outlined by the Culture tool kit
- Participate in on-air fundraising, and pray for donors over the phone as needed
- Participate in ministry wide Christian bible studies
- Attend weekly Staff Gatherings for prayer and devotions
- Passion for the ministries mission and Christian objectives
Non-Essential Functions:
- Contribute to department and organization special projects as assigned.
Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or other related field
Experience:
- 3+ years Accounting or financial reporting experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Advanced Excel skills
- Knowledge of non-profit regulations (Section 501(c)3 organizations), preferred
- Ability to multi-task
- Strong attention to detail to ensure financial accuracy
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Creative and enthusiastic, team player
- Comfortable and excited about a growing and innovated environment
- Strong administrative and organizational skills
- Effective writing skills and excellent grammatical usage and style
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Power Point, Access and Google tool applications
