What You'll Do:

  • Perform accounting functions according to established principles and assist the AVP of Accounting with financial reporting, analysis, and supervision of the accounting team.
  • Drive process improvement, departmental efficiency, and regulatory reporting while updating procedures.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of general ledger reconciliations, regulatory reporting, accounts payable processing, month-end closing entries, bank reconciliations, and various other daily accounting functions.

  • Obtain a thorough understanding of financial reporting and general ledger structure.
  • Assist with reviewing month-end processes and procedures such as journal entries, A/P, reconciliations, accruals, prepaids, allocations, capital expenditures, amortization/depreciation, and month-end reporting.
  • Maintain General Ledger systems; monitor and keep the GL system in balance, research system outages, and troubleshoot issues.
  • Update periodic GL account reconciliations and source documents in support of ending asset and liability balances.
  • Perform detailed analysis of general ledgers and expenditures upon request.
  • Assist with preparation of corporate budgets and budget-to-actual variance analysis as needed.
  • Assist with internal and external audits as needed.
  • Assist with management and regulatory reporting, including preparation of the NCUA 5300 Call Report.
  • Prepare payment and collateral reconciliations and reports for loans and investments sold to or held at FHLB, Fannie Mae, and other parties.
  • Assist Mortgage Servicing and Commercial Servicing departments with discrepancy research, reporting, month-end reconciliations, etc.
  • Reconcile loan participations, sales, monthly journal entries, and reporting.
  • Prepare Insurance Cuso reporting, including commission calculations, new and renewal policy updates, etc.
  • Maintain accounting workbooks and schedules for items such as fixed assets and prepaid expenses.
  • Identify areas of operational improvements to strengthen internal controls, increase productivity, and improve workflow.
  • Work closely with other departments to rectify issues and help create balancing efficiencies.
  • Oversee daily corporate cash monitor and projection functions.
  • Create and maintain procedures related to accounting processes, including documentation supporting accounting principles used.
  • Provide back-up support for various functions on the team to ensure continuity of all support services during the absence of any other member of the Accounting Department.
  • Assume responsibility for all other related duties as required.

What We're Looking For:

  • Extensive knowledge of GAAP and Computer Information Systems for Finance and Accounting.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and MS Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with close attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of leadership and employees within the organization.
  • Ability to work autonomously, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and adapt to new demands and challenges.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to follow instructions and respond to management direction.
  • Ability to consistently be at work on scheduled days and at scheduled times.
  • Knowledge of financial and accounting principles as applied in a financial services industry environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of financial instruments including debt securities, loans, and debt obligations is preferred.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Accounting or Finance required, CPA or Master's degree preferred.
  • Two to five years of experience in finance, accounting, mortgage, banking, or Public Accounting preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Light physical activity performing non-strenuous tasks of a clerical nature.
  • Consistent sitting, occasional standing and walking.
  • Frequent repetitive use of both hands, including occasional simple grasping.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with hands to fingers.

Work Environment:

  • Well-lighted, heated, and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation.
  • Moderate noise level.

Work Schedule:

  • 40-hour workweek, including some overtime as needed.
  • Occasional attendance at meetings before or after scheduled hours may be required.
  • Management reserves the right to change any employee's work schedule to meet the operational needs of the Credit Union.
  • Management reserves the right to reassign any employee, either temporarily or permanently, to work at another credit union location.

Travel:

  • Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) by land and/or air.
