Overview

Accountant role at Stengel Hill Architecture. Stengel Hill is seeking a detail-oriented and strategic-minded professional to join our team. This role works closely with the CFO to support the firm’s financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in all accounting processes. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of technical accounting expertise, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced professional services environment. This position can sit in any of our Stengel Hill locations: Louisville, KY; Lexington, KY; Nashville, TN; or Tampa, FL.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with CFO in setting financial strategies, policies, and procedures that align with company goals and industry best practices.
  • Prepare daily cash flow reporting and assessment.
  • Oversee the consultant billing process, including verifying accuracy, entering bills, and coordinating timely payments.
  • Manage payment of overhead expenses and maintain accurate vendor records.
  • Oversee the client invoicing process, ensuring timely preparation, review, and distribution of monthly invoices.
  • Monitor and record client payments; follow up on outstanding balances in collaboration with project and billing teams.
  • Review, approve, and process employee expense reports in accordance with company policy.
  • Manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing process, including preparation of closing journal entries, bank and credit card reconciliations to ensure GAAP compliance.
  • Coordinate with the external CPA firm on annual audit preparation and tax filings; ensure timely completion of quarterly tax payments.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy within the accounting function.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree (Bachelor’s degree preferred) in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience in a professional services environment; experience in architecture, engineering, or construction industries preferred.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, GAAP, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in interpreting contract terms and applying them to billing and fee management.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel with strong data analysis and financial reporting skills.
  • Experience with Deltek or similar ERP/project-based accounting software is required.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to collaborate across teams and interact professionally with colleagues, clients, and vendors.
