Job Summary
This position willperform professional accounting work in the Finance Department, including the preparation of the annual financial report and recording of capital projects and fixed assets, to provide highly complex assistance to the Finance Director.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist in all aspects of the City’s financial system, including the general ledger, fixed assets, payroll, or other related financial information technology systems
- Oversee and assist in preparing the city's annual financial report; prepare materials and documentation for outside auditors; coordinate work of auditors; assist in preparing the final audit report; prepare to adjust entries to state the city’s financial position fairly.
- Performing daily financial transactions such as verifying, calculating, and posting accounts receivable data.
- Reviewing and approving purchasing requisitions. Recommending accounting and budget adjustments.
- Ensures proper recordkeeping of purchases for use in audits.
- Reconciling the accounts receivable ledger to ensure that all payments are accounted for and accurately posted
- Manage the accounting process for fixed assets and capital projects; record adjustments to capital projects expenditures and revenues; record acquisition, disposition, and transfers for fixed assets; work with various city staff to monitor fixed assets inventory.
- Prepare daily balancing and monthly bank reconciliations; determine the need to audit payments made to outside agencies; develop accounting rules and procedures to be followed by City staff.
Qualifications
Two years experience in professional accounting work, preferably governmental accounting or governmental auditing. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, business administration, public administration, or a related field. Certified Public Accountant preferred.
The successful candidate must pass a background check, drug, and physical screen.
