Position Summary

Jefferson Wells is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior General Accountant for a long term contract role with our client in Detroit. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in NetSuite, a solid background in account reconciliations and journal entries, and the ability to supervise and mentor junior accounting staff. This role plays a key part in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records and supports the month-end and year-end close processes.

Hybrid role - 3 days a week in the office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review journal entries and general ledger reconciliations in accordance with GAAP.
  • Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Lead and support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
  • Utilize NetSuite ERP for day-to-day accounting functions, reporting, and analysis.
  • Assist with financial statement preparation and internal/external audits.
  • Supervise and mentor junior accountants, providing guidance and reviewing their work.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure proper accounting treatment of transactions.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and company policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CPA candidate preferred).
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory role.
  • Proficiency in NetSuite is required.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, account reconciliations, and journal entries.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with audit support and financial reporting is a plus.

Preferred Skills

  • Advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUPs).
  • Supervisory skills to review the work of others.
