Job Duties:
This position will perform a variety of accounting duties including accounts payable, journal entries, stale dated checks, reconciliation of bank and ledger accounts, and accounts receivable. In addition, this position may be asked to assist with tier two customer support and review of business processes to identify efficiencies.
This position will work collaboratively with all UWSS teams, the Workday Enterprise Support Team, other UW Administration teams and our customers to support routine operations as well as support the effort to build and enhance new work streams geared toward operational efficiency and automation of administrative services.
Key Job Responsibilities:
UW-Shared Services (UWSS) exists to standardize processes, consolidate operations, and streamline administrative practices to provide high quality services while improving administrative efficiency and effectiveness. In addition to providing high quality services, UW-Shared Services brings value to UW institutions by reducing administrative burden and cost, thereby allowing them to invest time and resources into activities which are more central to their mission.
Compensation:
The Accountant I (official title) is a full-time, salaried (exempt), Academic Staff appointment. Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary within the range of $53,000 - $63,500 annually commensurate with the candidate's education, related experience, and qualifications.

Work Location:
The office is located at 660 W Washington Ave. There is an in-office expectation of 3 days per week. The remaining days can be work from home/telecommuting. A telecommuting agreement form will need to be completed and approved. Telecommuting agreements are subject to change.

- Handle accounts payable related to payroll and a few miscellaneous UWSS related items
- Perform routine and ad hoc journal entries related to payroll deductions and other miscellaneous items
- Manage accounts receivable related to payroll
- Support the routine and ad hoc payroll tax compliance payments
- Answer questions and provide accounting related information to internal and external stakeholders according to established policies and procedures
- Assist with payroll and benefit related reconciliations
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement

- Associate's degree, preferably in accounting or finance or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated experience in a variety of accounting processes
- Demonstrated analytical thinking ability and Intermediate level skill with excel

- Experience in higher education or large complex organization
- Experience with payroll and/or benefits accounting
