Responsible for understanding and applying Florida Public Service Commission and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission rules, practices, and regulatory principles in determining appropriate regulatory treatment and accounting for FPL and any of its regulated subsidiaries. Principal Accountant individual will be charged with making accounting entries (if needed), direct support of any docket having accounting implications and ensuring final orders are implemented correctly and timely. Activities include but are not limited to testimony and discovery drafting, accounting witness support and any other activities related to specific dockets in either jurisdiction.

*This position can be based out of our Juno Beach, FL or Miami, FL locations*

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for understanding and accurately applying Florida Public Service Commission and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission specific rules and regulatory principles in determining proper regulatory treatment of FPL and any of its regulated subsidiaries.
  • Recommend appropriate accounting treatment for any transaction requiring regulatory approval in accordance with GAAP, FERC and FPSC guidelines.
  • Provide regulatory guidance to other departments and BUs within FPL and any of its regulated subsidiaries to assist them in decision-making or proper regulatory treatment and reporting.
  • Serve as point of contact for assigned dockets. This will include research on specific topic, testimony and discovery responses drafting, all support to the assigned accounting witness throughout the whole docket until the decision is received from the pertinent jurisdiction.
  • Ensure that once approval is received from the jurisdictions its implementation is timely and properly done in the books and records of the pertinent regulated entity.
  • Responsible for coordinating or recording accounting entries related to a specific transaction that might arise in the process of specific docket (i.e. transaction costs for specific FERC docket).
  • Interface with Deloitte and Internal Auditors as needed.
  • Maintain accounting control procedures and SOX (if applicable) to ensure compliance and assist SOX team with any question

Preferred Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA certificate preferred
  • Minimum of five years accounting or financial experience required
  • Public Utility experience is highly desirable
