Project Accountant

The Project Accountant is responsible for managing the financial aspects of construction projects, ensuring accurate cost tracking, budgeting, and reporting. This role collaborates closely with project managers and site teams to maintain financial control, support project profitability, and ensure compliance with contractual obligations. The ideal candidate is proficient in Trimble Spectrum accounting software, excels in communication, and is adept at using Excel for financial analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Track and monitor project-specific costs, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor expenses, ensuring alignment with project budgets.
  • Develop, maintain, and update project budgets, providing accurate cost forecasts and identifying potential financial risks.
  • Prepare and process project-related invoices, progress billings, and payments to subcontractors and vendors, ensuring timely and accurate transactions.
  • Generate detailed financial reports for project managers, analyzing project profitability, cost variances, and cash flow.
  • Review project contracts to ensure financial terms are met, including managing change orders and lien waivers.
  • Communicate effectively with project managers, superintendents, and external stakeholders to align financial data with project progress and resolve discrepancies.
  • Use Trimble Spectrum accounting software to manage project financials, ensuring accurate data entry and reporting.
  • Leverage advanced Excel formulas (e.g., VLOOKUP, pivot tables, SUMIFS) to analyze financial data and support decision-making.
  • Assist with internal and external audits, providing documentation and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies.

Essential Skills:

  • Proficiency in project accounting, construction, and month-end processes.
  • Experience with accounts payable, journal entry, and general ledger management.
  • Implementation skills related to accounting practices.
  • Proficiency in Trimble Spectrum or similar construction accounting platforms.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and data visualization.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry with commercial general contractors.
  • Familiarity with construction-specific financial processes, such as job costing, progress billing, and lien management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with project teams and external stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost savings.
  • CPA, CMA, or construction-specific certifications (e.g., CCIFP) are a plus but not required.
  • Highly organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Orlando, Florida.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $33.65/hr.
