PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Reporting to the Director of Finance, Non-Acute, the Senior Accountant will provide financial information by researching and analyzing accounting data and preparing reports.
While the Senior Accountant and the Accountant have similar job responsibilities, the Senior Accountant is assigned the larger, more complex entities (CCH, FH, HCI) and handles the accounting for the more technically complex areas such as actuarial Incurred But Not Reported (IBNR) calculations, fixed assets, leases, inventories. In addition, the Senior Accountant is involved in the preparation of the consolidated financial statements.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The Senior Accountant is responsible for month-end close and monthly financial reporting: Record financial transactions; Prepare and record journal entries by compiling and analyzing account information; Review, track, analyze and reconcile all information for accuracy and compliance Analyze budget variances; Prepare monthly reports; Lead the monthly close meeting
- Prepare monthly consolidated financial statements
- Prepare monthly account reconciliations in support of the financial statements
- Establish financial protocols and tracking systems(e.g., fixed assets ,inventories, capitalized labor)
- Prepare reports for submission to regulatory agencies
- Prepare audit worksheets and reports
- Prepare ad-hoc reports/analysis as needed by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends
- Recommend financial actions by analyzing accounting options
- Maintain accounting controls by following and/or recommending policies and procedures
- Answer accounting procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulations
- Maintain financial security by following and/or recommending internal controls
- Maintain the integrity of confidential data
- Guide Accountants and Accounting Assistants by coordinating activities and answering questions
- Keep informed on the latest developments in accounting and the healthcare field through study, reading, attendance at appropriate seminars
- Act as an advisor to Managers/Directors on financial formulation. Respond to department managers' inquiries regarding departmental reports. Participate in meetings as needed
- Exemplify a high standard of customer service

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; CPA preferred
- 5 - 7 years’ experience in a financial setting and/or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or closely related field
- Healthcare experience in a financial setting preferred
- Knowledge of GAAP, financial theories, principles and concepts
- Knowledge of PeopleSoft financial module (GL, Asset Management, A/P, Supply Chain, nVision, Query)
- Advanced knowledge of Excel functions and macros
- Ability to contribute to the continuous improvement of the quality and timeliness of the monthly financial statement closing cycle and associated account reconciliations
- Advanced analytical abilities, including analysis of financial performance of service lines
- Ability to incorporate best practice benchmarks, statistical values, and trend lines into the monthly financial reporting packages
- Ability to analyze revenue, salaries and benefits, and other than personnel services (“OTPS”) expenses
