Desk Accountant – Physical Gas & Power

Join a high-performing accounting team at one of the world’s most dynamic and influential global energy trading platforms. This is an opportunity to work at the heart of the physical power and natural gas markets, supporting front-office trading desks and delivering critical financial insights that drive decisions.

As a Desk Accountant, you’ll be responsible for executing desk-level accounting processes, managing monthly closes, and preparing financial reporting. You'll collaborate across trading, operations, and middle office teams, ensuring accuracy and transparency in a fast-paced environment. This role offers both autonomy and exposure, reporting directly to the Accounting Manager in a key U.S. energy hub.

What You’ll Do

• Reconcile monthly economic and accounting P&L for power and natural gas trading
• Manage accounting for commodity trades, including purchases, sales, and related costs
• Validate AR/AP balances and align data between trading systems and financial records
• Collaborate with front, middle office, and operations to ensure accuracy of reported figures
• Review balance sheets, cash movements, and working capital at the desk level
• Contribute to quarterly and year-end reporting and audit preparation
  
  

• Strong grasp of financial accounting and reporting
• Analytical mindset with an eye for detail and continuous improvement
• Familiarity with commodity trading environments, especially physical energy markets
• Proficiency in Excel and ability to handle complex data analysis
• Effective communicator, comfortable presenting findings to senior leadership
• Team player who’s proactive, solution-oriented, and willing to support colleagues
