Cost Accountant

Chicago, IL (Hybrid)

Reports To: Accounting Manager / Controller

We are seeking a detail-oriented Cost Accountant to manage product costing, inventory valuation, and cost analysis to support decision-making and profitability.

Position Summary:

The Cost Accountant will analyze production costs, prepare cost reports, and ensure accurate tracking of inventory and expenses. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and experience in manufacturing or production accounting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain and analyze standard costs for products and services.
• Prepare monthly cost reports and variance analysis (actual vs. standard).
• Track and reconcile inventory, including raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.
• Collaborate with production, procurement, and finance teams to ensure accurate costing.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost control initiatives.
• Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes related to inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS).
• Provide insights to management for pricing, profitability, and operational efficiency.
• Support audits and regulatory compliance as needed.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred but not required.
• 3–5 years of experience in cost accounting, preferably in manufacturing or production environments.
• Strong understanding of standard costing, inventory management, and GAAP.
• Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly.
