Position Overview

The Senior Accountant will play a key role on the finance team, overseeing the day-to-day accounting functions while supporting compliance, reporting, and budgeting across multiple programs. This role requires both strong technical accounting skills as well as a strong understanding of nonprofit fund accounting. The Senior Accountant will work closely with leadership and program managers to ensure financial transparency and accountability to a wide range of stakeholders, including government agencies and donors.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage full-cycle accounting, including journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual GAAP-compliant financial statements, including Statements of Financial Position, Activities, and Functional Expenses.
• Support the budgeting and forecasting process, analyze variances, and provide financial insights to program leadership.
• Oversee fund accounting, ensuring proper treatment of restricted vs. unrestricted funds, grants, and government contracts.
• Assist in coordinating with external auditors to ensure compliance with nonprofit standards.
• Develop and strengthen internal controls and financial processes across a multi-entity, multi-program organization.
• Collaborate with operations and program managers to provide timely, actionable reporting that improves decision-making.
• Contribute to special projects such as program expansions, system implementations, or process automation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA preferred or in progress.
• 3–5 years of accounting experience; prior nonprofit or healthcare sector experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of fund accounting, grant management, and compliance reporting.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel; experience with QuickBooks or similar systems a plus.
• Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and communication skills.
