Base pay range

$85,000.00/yr - $100,000.00/yr

Senior Accountant - Construction, Johnson County, Kansas

  • Perform monthly close activities to ensure all monthly costs are recorded or accrued and revenue is recognized appropriately.
  • Review activities for unrecorded costs and make related monthly accruals and reversals.
  • Ensure balance sheet accuracy, perform account reconciliations and maintain related workpapers, validate associated balances are correct and supported with proper documentation.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations to ensure cash balance is correct in the general ledger, record related bank fees and interest income, ensure outstanding checks reviewed and kept current.
  • Oversee accounts receivable including customer deposits and bad debt expense review.
  • Maintain fixed assets ledger, ensure assets are recorded and tracked, and monthly depreciation/amortization is recorded, ensure disposals are recorded and accounted for correctly.
  • Oversee accounts payable including payments to vendors/subcontractors and annual 1099s.
  • Review WIP with project accountant and controller to ensure estimated contract value and cost budgets are correct and owner change orders are recorded. Review revenue recognized is in line with POC and costs to date, and billings to date are correct.
  • Review and approve project accountant monthly job costs accruals ensuring amounts are correct and have proper support.
  • File state and local sales/use tax returns, annual business reports, and assist with business licenses.
  • Support in financial reporting, planning, and analysis including assisting with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, the annual budget process, and other analysis as needed.
  • Support in annual 3rd party CPA review or audit and annual income tax filings.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required with 5-7 years of experience, preferably in the construction industry.
  • GAAP
  • Familiarity with software such as Premier or other construction industry software is a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel including advanced formulas, pivot tables, charts, and graphs.
