Pay Range: $19.64-$25.04+

Job Summary

The Security Guard is responsible for policing hospital buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry. Assists staff with unruly visitors and patients, alleviates facility safety and environmental conditions. Takes interventions with patients under the direction of medical staff, both verbal and nonverbal.

Duties

• Periodically tours buildings and grounds, examining doors, windows, and gates to ensure security and integrity:
• Check all hospital doors on an hourly basis.
• File a completed DAR each shift and email to appropriate directors at shift end.
• Check physician offices and mobiles at least twice a shift.
• Monitor parking lots via camera or foot patrol throughout shifts.

• Confronts unauthorized persons for questioning, routes or detains them, or calls police as needed.
• Alerts hospital staff about fire emergencies requiring assistance.
• Patrols grounds to detect unauthorized persons or vehicles physically and via cameras.
• Checks vehicles for restricted parking areas such as fire zones, ambulance entrances, or reserved spaces.
• Inspects exterior lighting and access routes to emergency and fire exits.
• Provides escort to personnel in parking lots or between buildings as requested.
• Answers visitors' questions about hospital locations and facilities.

Qualifications

• Ability to speak, read, and write English and follow instructions.
• Up to 3 months of on-the-job training to learn safety and equipment locations.
• Must possess a valid New York State unarmed security guard license or equivalent (e.g., Police or Corrections Officer).

Lifting Requirements

Heavy lifting is considered up to 100 pounds maximum, with frequent lifting or carrying objects up to 50 pounds. May stand for up to 8 hours, walk, and climb stairs or ladders. Field of vision needed to detect unauthorized persons, malfunctioning equipment, or fire. Works inside and outside.
