Job Summary:

The Department of University Police and Public Safety seeks a full-time Security Services Assistant I / Security Guard.

Responsibilities

1. Patrol State facilities to detect security incidents and deter criminal activities through presence and witness.
2. Assist visitors by answering questions and providing directions.
3. Control access to facilities by verifying identities, maintaining logs, and operating security systems.
4. Issue identification cards and passes, and maintain their integrity.
5. Operate detection equipment to screen individuals and prevent prohibited items from entering restricted areas.
6. Inspect buildings for safety hazards and report deficiencies.
7. Patrol premises to prevent property damage and take preventive actions.
8. Secure doors, windows, and fire barriers as directed.
9. Assist physically handicapped persons as needed.
10. Respond to emergencies, administer first aid, and summon medical services.
11. Call police or fire departments during emergencies and assist as needed.
12. Guide people during evacuations to ensure safety.
13. Operate fire extinguishers and assist in fire evacuations.
14. Prepare reports of activities and incidents.
15. Support patrols or incident response with motor vehicle operation.

Qualifications

• Must be registered as a Security Guard with the New York State Department of State.
• Meet physical and medical requirements for the position.

Salary and Additional Information

Salary Grade: SG-6

Base Salary: $40,169 plus $3,400 Location Pay and $1,550 Facility Duty Pay.
