Job Description: It is the policy of the Bowie State University Police Force, through the approval of the Director of Campus Police and the President of the University, to establish a Security Guard program.

It will be the SECURITY GUARD's responsibility to support the Bowie State University Police Department by enhancing campus safety and providing high-quality security services to the Bowie State University community. The duties and responsibilities listed below will enable you to perform your job professionally, effectively, and efficiently.

Under direct supervision, performs routine security activities to protect buildings and property and safeguard occupants and visitors during normal operations and special events.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Report promptly to the shift supervisor all crimes, fires, vandalism, accidents, breaches of peace, and incidents during your tour of duty.
  • Be properly uniformed and equipped, following dispatches, orders, and instructions from supervisors.
  • Record and log safety issues and maintenance problems.
  • Be accountable for activities at your assigned post.
  • Report to your assignment immediately upon duty, cover your area until your tour ends, and resume patrol or return to your assignment promptly if you leave.
  • Assist police and emergency personnel during fires, disasters, accidents, or similar events.
  • Sign in the PSA Daily Log book with time in and out, review orders, notices, and directives, and familiarize yourself with recent and scheduled events.
  • Become familiar with all radio procedures, codes, and signals used by BSUPD.
  • Know the campus layout, including streets, buildings, and key information.
  • Maintain honesty in reporting locations and activities.
  • Call police for assistance when needed, even off your patrol area, in matters requiring immediate attention.
  • Patrol your assigned area diligently and vigilantly, especially during darkness or when buildings are closed.
  • Secure open or broken windows and doors, and report suspicious persons or conduct.
  • Enforce parking regulations and issue citations for violations.
  • Familiarize yourself with emergency equipment locations.
  • Refrain from congregating in Robinson Hall, on or off duty.
  • Seek advice and guidance from your shift supervisor as needed.
  • Provide escort services when required.
  • Do not act as or represent yourself as a police officer.
  • Work at special events and attend all training sessions.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Director or supervisors, consistent with a Public Safety Aide role.
