Overview
Armed Security Guard role at Bering Straits Native Corporation (BSNC) / Bering Straits Logistics Services (BSLS). Part-Time Armed Security Guards will primarily perform protective service work such as guarding Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base owned or leased buildings and property, protecting equipment and material, and controlling access to installations through established Entry Control Points (ECPs) by Active Duty Military personnel, employees, visitors, residents, and patients. The Officer will respond to emergencies, enforce regulations and federal laws, conduct mobile patrols, inspections and searches, traffic enforcement, and investigations. After completion of required training, the Officer is armed with a side arm, shotgun, or other weapons as required.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Must be able to complete a 1.5 mile run in 17:30 and 19 push-ups in 2 minutes.
- Follow all company personnel and safety policies and perform duties in a safe manner.
- Arrive to work in proper uniform and carrying issued equipment.
- Possess and/or exercise force up to and including deadly force with a pistol or shotgun.
- Draw assigned weapon and participate in Guard Mount, receive assigned post, and copy extra instructions.
- Communicate via radio, telephone and orally according to orders.
- Interact with and escort public and FLETC personnel as required.
- Provide access control, traffic control, and conduct walking and motorized Police Officer functions.
- Maintain cleanliness of uniform and equipment.
- Follow applicable standard operating procedures and regulations pertaining to security of weapons, buildings, personnel, and equipment.
- Conduct personnel, vehicular, building, and facility checks and parcel inspections.
- Possess or be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance (active clearance or clearance held within the last two years preferred).
Qualifications - Experience, Education And Certification
- In compliance with Federal law, verification of identity and eligibility to work in the United States (I-9) upon hire.
- High School Diploma or GED; must be at least 21 years of age.
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a full-time employee of a civilian law enforcement agency, military police, government/civilian security organization, or equivalent military experience involving security, force protection, weapons proficiency, and related duties.
- Honorably discharged (if applicable).
- Diploma or certificate from a recognized law enforcement training academy or equivalent federal/state/local training.
- Successful completion of required training and possession of necessary permits, licenses, certifications, and security clearances for the site.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
- DoD security clearance required or obtainable; active clearance preferred.
- English language proficiency (speaking, reading, writing).
- Be able to obtain Armed and/or Unarmed Security Guard Licenses as required by state.
- Meet any Federal, State, or Municipal requirements to work as a Police Officer.
- No history of illegal drug use in the past five years; no disqualifying convictions per Lautenberg Act.

- Proficiency with personal computers and standard office software (MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Strong problem solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities; capable of working under pressure.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and organize tasks; effective time management.
- Professional interaction and communication with colleagues, supervisors, and the public.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply complex procedures, regulations, and instructions.
- Ability to present information clearly to groups and respond to questions from managers, clients, and the general public.
- Quantitative reasoning and basic math for policy applications.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to perform the essential functions. Reasonable accommodations may be made. Essential and marginal functions include sitting, standing, talking, and hearing. Frequently required to walk; use hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms. Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision. Must successfully complete a pre-employment physical agility test (PAT) and annual tests as prescribed.

Additional Qualifying Factors
May be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check to obtain access to a military base. Reliable transportation is necessary. Must be able to obtain access to military installations.
