Position Function

Under direct supervision of the Principal, patrol school buildings to ensure a safe and secure environment, as well as the safety of students, staff, and visitors.

Essential Functions

• Ensure safety and security of students, staff, visitors, and property in accordance with district policies.
• Conduct security patrols of the building.
• Enforce board policies, school rules, and regulations.
• Report concerns and incidents requiring corrective action to the Principal.
• Assist visitors, maintain visitor logs, and prevent unauthorized entry.
• Monitor exits and prevent unauthorized student exits.
• Check student passes during classes and escort students as directed.
• Physically separate students involved in altercations and maintain crowd control.
• Monitor grounds in the morning to prevent loitering and improper parking.

• Perform related duties as required.

Equipment

• Use radio communication equipment.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

• Knowledge of building security and safety practices.
• Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and codes.
• Knowledge of security and alarm systems, surveillance, and related devices.
• Ability to follow work orders and coordinate with staff.
• Ability to describe security issues effectively.
• Ability to report work accurately.
• Ability to establish cooperative relationships with students and staff.
• Maintain professionalism and calmness when challenged.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

• Work in a standard school environment.
• Occasional work in poor weather conditions.
• Physical ability to separate involved individuals.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent, experience in security or law enforcement, preferred experience working with adolescents. Must pass background checks and physical exam, and be able to work on-site.
