Position Title: Lead Preschool Teacher
Location: Beacon Hill Academy
Reports To: Preschool Director / Head of Early Childhood Education
Position Type: Full-time / Part-time
Job Overview:
The Lead Preschool Teacher is responsible for creating and implementing a nurturing, educational, and safe environment for young children (typically ages 3 to 5) in a preschool setting. The Lead Teacher will guide and supervise the classroom, providing individualized instruction, fostering social and emotional growth, and promoting early childhood development through structured activities and play. This role requires a deep understanding of child development principles and a passion for working with young children.
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum Planning and Implementation:
- Design and implement developmentally appropriate, engaging curriculum that meets the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs of each child.
- Plan and organize daily schedules, ensuring a balance of structured activities, playtime, and rest periods.
- Integrate creative learning opportunities, such as art, music, reading, math, and science, into daily lessons.
Classroom Management:
- Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that encourages curiosity and exploration.
- Implement effective strategies for managing student behavior, promoting positive social interactions, and ensuring classroom safety.
- Adapt activities to accommodate diverse learning styles and developmental levels.
Individualized Instruction:
- Assess each child’s strengths and developmental needs to provide tailored support.
- Use formative assessments and observations to track progress and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.
- Communicate regularly with parents and caregivers about their child's progress, behavior, and needs.
Collaboration with Support Staff:
- Work closely with other teachers, aides, and specialists to provide comprehensive support for all children.
- Participate in team meetings and professional development opportunities to continuously improve teaching practices.
Parental Communication and Engagement:
- Build positive relationships with parents and families through regular communication, conferences, and school events.
- Offer guidance and suggestions to parents to support their child’s development at home.
Health and Safety:
- Ensure that the classroom is a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment.
- Follow all state and local regulations regarding health, safety, and child welfare.
- Administer first aid and manage any health-related incidents, if necessary.
Professional Development:
- Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current on early childhood education trends, strategies, and best practices.
- Maintain required certifications and licenses (CPR, First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention, etc.).
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field (required). A Master’s degree is a plus.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching young children in a preschool or early childhood setting (required).
- Experience in a lead or supervisory role is preferred.
- Certifications:
- Valid state teaching license (if applicable).
- CPR and First Aid certification (preferred or required).
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of early childhood development principles and practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage a classroom of young children effectively.
- Creative and enthusiastic about working with young learners.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds (e.g., for children, classroom supplies, etc.).
- Comfort with bending, kneeling, and sitting on the floor to interact with children.
- Ability to monitor children's safety during outdoor play and field trips.
Work Environment:
- The Lead Preschool Teacher will work in a classroom environment with young children, both indoors and outdoors, as well as occasionally participate in field trips or school events.
- The position may require extended hours or occasional weekend events depending on the school calendar.
