Position Summary
The Art Teacher directs the academic, social, and emotional growth of students so that each student progresses toward the goals and objectives outlined in both their Individual Education Plan (IEP) and Service Plan. This role creates a supportive, engaging learning climate while helping students maximize their learning potential through academic, social, and emotional development.

Professional Development Opportunities
Teachers receive ongoing professional development through in-service trainings, supervision, and opportunities to strengthen expertise in the field. Staff maintain certifications including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and First Aid/CPR, provided by the agency.

Position Specific Duties/Responsibilities
- Direct student behavior and activities to facilitate goal achievement
- Create a learning climate that fosters intellectual, social, and emotional growth
- Maintain records of student progress and ensure credit for work completed
- Provide individualized or group instructional support and develop instructional materials
- Assist students in utilizing available resources and supervise transitions between instructional areas
- Develop educational plans to maximize student learning potential
- Communicate with parents/guardians bi-weekly
- Record daily student progress, update notes, and prepare reports for CSE meetings
- Supervise assigned Teacher's Aides
- Attend team, content, and staff meetings
- Support school-wide PBIS program
- Maintain valid NYS certification and required trainings
- Provide supervision in hallways or lunchroom as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal
- Ability to create engaging learning environments for students with emotional or learning challenges
- Strong communication and instructional skills
- Experience with curriculum development and instructional planning
- Ability to work effectively with students, families, and staff from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to address and manage challenging student behavior
- Team-oriented, adaptable, and flexible
- Proficient in documentation and communication using multiple mediums (logbooks, email, telephone)
- Required: Provisional or Permanent teaching certification in an academic core area and/or in special education
- Preferred: Master's Degree in a core academic area; Initial or Professional teaching certification in an academic core area and/or special education
- Experience with "at-risk," emotionally disturbed, and/or learning-disabled students preferred but not required
- Valid driver's license, adequate auto insurance, and compliance with agency driving policy
- Ability to pass an annual physical per agency health policy (Category 3 classification)
- Compliance with agency safety standards and healthy work environment practices
