Description

RATE OF PAY:

Certified Teacher B-6: $25.91 per hour
4 Year Degree: $23.87 per hour
2 Year Degree: $20.58 per hour
EHS Teacher with CDA: $20.47 per hour

JOB FUNCTION:

The Teacher will work collaboratively with the classroom team, including parent(s)/guardian(s), families, volunteers, and other classroom staff to ensure the successful operation of the classroom and implement the curriculum to achieve outcomes for children.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide direct and competent supervision to ensure the safety and security of children at all times in accordance with Head Start, NY State Office of Children and Families regulations and supports MVCAA, Inc. Supervision of Children policy in the classroom, during outdoor experiences, and field trips.
  2. Ensure that the classroom and outdoor area are in compliance with NYS OCFS Regulations and Performance Standards.
  3. Establish positive, healthy, and professional relationships with families.
  4. Attend to the physical needs of the children (diapering, toileting, feeding, resting, rocking, and holding children).
  5. Implement a child-centered, developmentally appropriate curriculum and learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation to promote development in all domains for children and supports children in progression of School Readiness Goals and objectives.
  6. Provide children with a consistent classroom routine in accordance with the Creative Curriculum.
  7. Be responsible for effective interactions with children in accordance with the CLASS observation tool (Head Start classrooms only).
  8. Develop, implement, and display lesson plans in cooperation with parents/guardians/families.
  9. Complete developmental and behavioral screenings on all children within 45 days of child’s entrance into the program, utilizing results for individualized planning and referrals as needed.
  10. Work in partnership with parents/guardians/families to develop an individual plan for each child, including goal setting based on identified needs and activities to meet established child outcomes.
  11. Integrate Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for children with documented disabilities.
  12. Collect and record children’s progress to complete accurate assessments at 3 or 4 points in the year and individualize curriculum.
  13. Analyze classroom-level child outcome data reports and implement a plan to promote greater outcomes for children in partnership with parent(s)/guardian(s)/families.
  14. Address challenging behaviors by observing to determine the possible causes, implementing preventive developmentally appropriate measures, teaching the child new social and communication skills, and partnering with families to support the child at home.
  15. Participate in meals with the children as a curriculum activity to model good nutrition and developmentally appropriate social skills for children age birth to 5.
  16. Identify and encourage families wanting to volunteer in the classroom, work as substitutes, or in other volunteer activities to the Human Resource office.
  17. Secure substitutes for all absences.
  18. Supervise, train, delegate tasks, and evaluate Assistant Teachers, Classroom Aides, volunteers, substitutes, and interns within the classroom.
  19. Complete custodial duties not provided by the lease agreement.
  20. Understand, generate, and document in-kind and other allowable costs toward the non-federal share requirement.
  21. Demonstrate commitment to mission, values, and policies in the performance of daily duties.
  22. Understand and support MVCAA, Inc. Supervision of Children policy.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the successful execution of the program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. HS Teacher: Must possess an Associate, Bachelor, or Advanced degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education.
  2. EHS Teacher: Minimum of a current Infant/Toddler Child Development Associate (CDA) credential AND two years of experience caring for children, one of which must be related to caring for infants or toddlers; or preferably a two-year degree in Early Childhood Education plus one year of specific training and/or experience in infant/toddler.
  3. Universal Pre-K Teacher: Must possess a current New York State Preschool Certification.
  4. Center Director: Bachelor or Advanced Degree in Early Childhood Education, one year full-time teaching experience in a child care center, and one year of supervising staff in a child care program or a related field of work.
  5. Ability to travel to all sites, trainings, and home visits as necessary and required.
  6. Able to communicate with children and families as well as maintain accurate records.
  7. Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality and privacy.
  8. Adheres to agency personnel policies and procedures.
  9. Attends trainings and meetings as required.
  10. Basic computer literacy in email, word processing, and internet navigation.
  11. Knowledge and experience working with families and children with low income and diverse cultures.
  12. Background check, fingerprint screen, physical exam, and TB.
  13. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  14. Must be able to move throughout the classroom, building, gross motor areas, and outside venues during a field trip.
  15. Must be able to interact with children at the child’s level.
