Position Summary

This full-time role of a GSRP Lead Teacher is located on-site in Kalamazoo, MI. The GSRP Lead Teacher will be responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating the educational activities of the classroom. Daily tasks include creating lesson plans, managing classroom activities, providing individual and group instruction, and assessing student progress. The teacher will communicate with parents, caregivers, and support staff to enhance the learning experience. Additionally, adherence to all licensing and program requirements in maintaining a safe and healthy classroom environment is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute daily lesson plans aligned with approved GSRP curriculum Creative Curriculum.
  • Assess children’s progress using approved tools (e.g. TS GOLD) and maintain accurate records.
  • Maintain classroom compliance with GSRP guidelines, Michigan licensing, and safety regulations.
  • Provide dual home visits and parent‐teacher conferences annually for each child.
  • Foster a nurturing, inclusive, and classroom environment that meets ECSQ‐PK standards.
  • Collaborate closely with an Associate Teacher, empowering them as part of the instructional team.
  • Engage in professional learning, coaching sessions with ECS, and team meetings.
  • Manage classroom logistics: supplies, safety, hygiene, recordkeeping, and incident documentation.
  • Perform outreach and recruitment activities (e.g., open houses, school readiness events)

Qualifications

Required

  • Credentialing:
    • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with ZA (Early Childhood Education) or ZS (Early Childhood–General & Special Education) endorsement, or
    • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development major, or related field (e.g., Elementary Ed., Child Psychology).
  • Age 18+ (or 19+ depending on program)
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Pass the SOM childcare criminal background check.

Preferred

  • Experience with at-risk preschool-aged children.
  • Familiar with statewide early childhood standards and CLASS system.
  • Skilled in literacy or early math curriculum best practices
  • Strong communication, cultural competency, and family engagement skills
