Overview
Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ) — a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York — seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Receptionist to join our Administrative team.
The Receptionist will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children's Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life. The ideal candidate must possess excellent communication and organization skills and understand front desk operations.
Responsibilities
- Greet and welcome staff and visitors to the building
- Manage calls promptly and transfer information to the appropriate parties
- Track phone messages
- Answer questions and provide general organization-related information to visitors and callers
- Remain aware of staff movement in and out of the building
- Perform general administrative duties including preparing letters and documents, photocopying, mailing, ordering supplies, and processing invoices
- Receive, sort, and disseminate mail
- Ensure the reception area is always clean and presentable
- Collaborate with safety, afterschool, and athletic departments to foster a welcoming, organized, and safe environment
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High School diploma
- Bachelor’s degree preferred and/or attending college with some experience in data, clerical, and administrative practices and procedures
- Who You Are: commitment to HCZ mission; excellent oral and written communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); ability to work well in a team and independently; comfortable in diverse urban settings
What You’ll Do
- Greet and assist visitors and staff at the front desk
- Coordinate communications and provide information to staff and visitors
- Assist with general administrative duties and office operations
Schedule
- Summer: M-F 2p - 7p
- Fall: M-F 3p - 9p
