Overview
Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health invites applications for the position of Receptionist. Located in Norfolk, Virginia, Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health is a leading community partner providing acute, residential, and Partial Hospitalization treatment for children and teens with behavioral and/or mental health concerns. The hospital is dedicated to providing high quality care to children, adolescents and their families. Founded in 1986, Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health is an 82-bed hospital facility accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC) and licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS).
Reporting to the Executive Assistant, the Receptionist provides professional communication support by operating the hospital telephone system for incoming calls, greeting, receiving and screening visitors, and performing other clerical duties as assigned. This highly visible position is the first point of contact for guests and visitors upon arrival at the hospital, requiring a high level of communication and professionalism.
Responsibilities
- Greets all visitors and guests, directs them to complete necessary arrival and identification procedures, documents activity in visitor logs, and announces guests to the appropriate staff in accordance with visitor control policies.
- Operates the telephone system and maintains knowledge of overall facility systems and equipment.
- Answers incoming calls promptly, directs or routes to the appropriate entity, utilizes paging equipment to contact staff, and relays messages as needed.
- Fosters effective communication in the milieu consistent with therapeutic goals and with staff members.
- Serves as a role model for patients/residents, demonstrating service excellence and professional behavior.
- Interprets facility and departmental policies and works with the department to achieve organizational objectives.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Skill in the use of paging systems, including switchboards and overhead communication systems.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling matters of elevated importance.
- Experience of 6 months or more providing receptionist and switchboard services in a hospital setting preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with computer systems and software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel) preferred.
- Shift assignment to weekends with flexibility to work alternating hours; may serve as a floater for other receptionists as needed.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks with minimal supervision and take initiative on urgent matters.
Shift details
Evening shift with rotating weekends and holidays.
