Summary

Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor or Crew Chief, responsible for all high and certain low voltage electric equipment systems and system operation within the Hospital and its related buildings.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and inspects all electrical work performed by Hospital and contractor employees.
  • Tests emergency electrical generators and distribution systems.
  • Investigates and locates defects in electrical systems; repairs wiring, lighting fixtures, wiring devices, and central equipment control.
  • Repairs electrically operated equipment as required by work orders, emergency calls, or direct assignments.
  • Studies blueprints and diagrams to plan and estimate materials and costs; overcomes encountered problems.
  • Maintains inventory of frequently used materials.
  • Keeps records of repairs and recommends equipment replacements.
  • Maintains high and low voltage systems, including transfer switches, power panels, fire alarm, and smoke detection systems.
  • Installs electrical systems, controls, and distribution equipment.
  • Replaces motors, transformers, switches, and outlets as needed.
  • Tests electrical load conditions and recommends corrections for overloads.
  • Coordinates electrical system shutdowns for repairs.
  • Ensures safety, environmental, and infection control standards are met.
  • Performs all duties safely and professionally, adhering to policies.
  • Must have a good driving record and valid driver’s license to operate vehicles as required.

Other Information

  • Performs other related duties as required.

Basic Knowledge

  • Equivalent to four years of high school or vocational training plus three years of electrician apprenticeship.
  • Knowledge of electrical building codes.
  • Master Electrician license preferred.

Experience

  • Five years of hospital-related experience preferred.

Supervisory Responsibility

May provide technical supervision of assigned staff.

Work environment exposes to heat, chemicals, and various equipment; safety procedures and protective gear are required. Physical activities include walking, climbing, standing, stooping, bending, squatting, and lifting heavy objects.
