The American School for the Deaf (ASD) is the oldest school for the deaf, founded in 1817 by Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet and Laurent Clerc. Position: Electrician
Department: Facilities/Operations
Supervisor: Facilities Manager
Description: Full-time, 12 Months, Benefits Eligible
Union Status: Non-Collective Bargaining (non-union)
SCOPE OF DUTIES
Under the Facilities Manager's direction, responsible for assessing and maintaining electrical components, identifying concerns, and implementing corrective actions adhering to safety standards and Electrical Code regulations.
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Review electrical blueprints for issues.
- Assess electrical grids for problems and ensure proper installation.
- Identify issues and perform corrective measures.
- Install safety and distribution components, such as switches, resistors, and circuit-breaker panels.
- Inspect and replace wiring and cables, clean circuits to prevent system breakdowns.
- Troubleshoot hazards or malfunctions and repair or replace damaged units.
- Use testing devices to identify electrical problems and report findings.
- Conduct monthly inspections of electrical systems, including emergency and exit lighting, and GFCI receptacles.
- Be on-call during heating season and rotate with colleagues.
- Coordinate with outside vendors for repairs and servicing.
- Assist with preventative maintenance and develop maintenance plans with the Facilities Manager.
- Assist during weather emergencies.
- Comply with all safety standards and Electrical Code regulations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Good judgment and decision-making skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
- Assess situations and escalate to the Facilities Manager when necessary.
- Proficient in using hand tools and power equipment.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Connecticut State Licensed Electrician (E1 license required; E2 considered).
- Minimum of 5 years licensed experience in industrial and/or commercial electrical systems.
- Knowledge of installing and maintaining electrical systems.
- Physical ability to lift, push, pull, and move moderately heavy objects and ascend/descend ladders.
- Valid CT Driver’s License.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
- Compensation based on experience, available upon request.
