Position Summary
Under minimum supervision, performs diagnostic, service, and installation electrical work in residential customer’s home. Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures. Ensures that work is performed in accordance with relevant codes. Communicates with residential customer to answer questions, resolve problems, and ensure complete customer satisfaction. Promotes products and services to customer.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyzes, diagnoses, and resolves customer problems in a courteous, professional, timely, and accurate manner.
- Diagnoses malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. May provide preliminary sketches or cost estimates for materials or services.
- Inspects electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
- Tests electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using testing devices to ensure safety and compatibility.
- Plans layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
- Repairs or replaces wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using hand tools or power tools. Connects wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components. Installs boxes for switches or outlets.
- Places conduit, pipes, or tubing inside designated areas and pulls wires to complete circuits.
- Installs ground leads and connects power cables to equipment.
- Constructs and fabricates parts using hand tools and specifications.
- Uses a variety of tools or equipment and testing devices to complete tasks.
- Works from ladders, scaffolds, or roofs to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures.
- Maintains current electrician's license in accordance with regulations.
- Ensures company property, vehicles, and tools are properly maintained and accounted for.
- Arrives prepared to maintain stock in company vehicles and replenish as needed.
- Represents the company professionally and ethically in all business matters.
- Performs similar/other duties as needed or assigned.
Desired Skills And Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Four years experience in electrical repair, maintenance, and installation in addition to on-the-job training.
- Current knowledge of and continuing education in national, state, and local electrical code regulations.
- Knowledge of machines and tools used in construction or repair of buildings.
- Working proficiency in basic mathematics and measurements.
- Proficient at reading wiring diagrams and troubleshooting electrical systems.
- Proficient mechanical aptitude and ability to operate necessary tools and equipment.
- Effective communication skills with customers
- Time-management and organizational skills
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- Flexible hours and on-call availability
- Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and work in attics/basements/crawl spaces
- Vision requirements appropriate for close and distance tasks; color distinction
- Hand/eye coordination
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
