Responsibilities

  • Provide process control and automation programming and troubleshooting expertise.
  • Construct, assemble, and install electrical components, panels, and enclosures including conduit bending and wire pulling in accordance with applicable code standards.
  • Use test equipment to logically troubleshoot electrical issues.
  • Troubleshoot network communication control issues using diagnostic equipment.
  • Basic understanding of instrumentation, sensors, test equipment, variable frequency drives, and PLCs including component configuration requirements typically preferred.
  • Design and implement/manage the update of control systems from old technology to new technology (e.g., Allen-Bradley PLC-5 to ControlLogix).
  • Follow applicable Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, Work Practices, Product Standards, and Work Orders to perform assigned tasks.
  • Maintain plant support systems (e.g., heat, air, fans, air compressors and dryers) in working order.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and cleaning of production and facility equipment.
  • Ensure maintenance tasks meet manufacturer requirements for quality and reliability.
  • Perform mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repairs as required.
  • Read and understand equipment manuals, technical references, machine drawings, schematic diagrams, and work orders.
  • Participate in the Maintenance Continuing Training Program, as directed.
  • Keep maintenance spaces organized and free from excess tools, materials, debris, and other items not in use, following 5S methods.
  • Assist in data acquisition and reporting; collaborate with maintenance and operations to maximize machine center performance.
  • Upgrade and fine-tune control systems to improve equipment performance and support operations in achieving centerline conditions and standard speeds.
  • Address downtime issues promptly using machine instrumentation and analysis.

Education, Knowledge, & Experience

  • High School or equivalent; post-secondary education desirable (vocational training or coursework in engineering technology).
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field is a plus.
  • Welding/Fabrication a plus.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform maintenance on basic mechanical systems a plus.
  • Computer literate; experience with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and related applications; training provided.
  • Minimum of 3 years manufacturing experience; packaging/converting experience preferred; Journeyman electrical license a plus.
  • At least 3 years of PLC and HMI programming experience a plus.
  • Understanding of wireless technology implementation preferred.
  • Experience in the Paper Converting Industry a plus.

General Requirements / Skills & Abilities

  • Comprehensive understanding of electrical theory, operation, distribution (MCCs, transformers), PLCs with advanced programming, variable frequency drives, AC/DC motors and their controls.
  • Ability to read logic in DCS, MDC, or PLCs and knowledge of controller-based hardware and controls programming software.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of pneumatic and electronic instrumentation.
  • Electrical/Electronic field certification with at least 2 years of classroom/lab or practical experience.
  • Operate material handling equipment safely, or be able to obtain certification via training and testing.
  • Adhere to company policies and be able to maintain an on-call status as required.
  • Pass criminal background check, pre-hire physical including lifting and walking tests, and a pre-hire drug test.
  • Willingness to work safely and wear PPE as required.
  • Meet attendance expectations; avoid patterns of tardiness or unscheduled absences.
  • Excellent communication skills; professional interaction with employees and vendors at all levels.
  • Self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision and in collaboration with a team.
  • Good visual acuity and observation skills.
  • Ability to work on a call-out rotation and in a rotating 12-hour shift schedule, including OT, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work in a hot, humid, noisy, high-volume manufacturing environment; ability to climb, bend, and stoop.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders and stairs, and stand for extended periods.
  • Perform required record keeping.
