Overview

Director, Human Resources at South Texas Health System. The System Director, Human Resources will provide expert consultation and leadership, focusing on strategic planning, implementation, and monitoring of Human Resources across the system, including four hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, free-standing emergency departments, and related facilities. The role supports the mission to transform healthcare delivery.

Responsibilities

  • As a member of the System Executive Team, participate in operations management, development of strategic initiatives, and long- and short-range planning affecting Human Resources.
  • Ensure compliance of day-to-day Human Resources functions with Federal, State Licensing, and Corporate requirements.
  • Direct the recruitment of qualified staff to ensure an adequate workforce; identify tools, resources, and best practices with the recruitment team; oversee onboarding program requirements.
  • Direct the Human Resources Department to provide support services to other departments within STHS.
  • Review, revise, implement, monitor, and enforce the Wage Administration Program for STHS.
  • Ensure standardized job descriptions, job postings, policies, processes, and practices across the region based on HR recommendations and best practices.
  • Demonstrate commitment to employee engagement through development of programs to create a positive work experience; recognize and reward staff creatively and consistently.
  • Conduct investigations, review employee relations issues, and recommend appropriate corrective action, up to termination, per STHS policies.
  • Provide oversight of the volunteer, junior volunteer, and Pastoral Care programs by leading the Director of Volunteer Services.
  • Custodian of the Personnel Records for STHS.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience

  • 8–10 years of experience in Human Resources, with a strong emphasis on leadership and management.
  • At least 5 years of progressively responsible management experience, including a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated multi-site HR consulting experience, preferably in a for-profit acute or behavioral health healthcare setting or a related healthcare system.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with field and leadership teams to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Responsive and adept at managing issues requiring timely management and oversight.
  • Extensive experience in HR operations, employee relations, and HR staff management and development.
  • Prior experience managing high-volume full-cycle recruitment processes.
  • Comprehensive understanding of federal, state, and local employment laws, with experience working with the EEOC and other regulatory agencies, and familiarity with Joint Commission HR requirements.
  • Knowledge of labor relations and union avoidance strategies.

Skills

  • Proficient in compensation practices and knowledgeable about federal and state wage and hour laws.
  • Familiarity with HRIS systems such as Lawson, iCIMS, Workday, ATS, LMS, etc.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Strong critical thinking skills to make informed recommendations and decisions based on relevant information.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, analytical, and organizational skills.

Certification/Licensure

  • Professional certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or CHHR) is highly preferred.

Travel Requirements

  • Local travel between facilities is required.
