JOB OVERVIEW:
A Barista is responsible for crafting specialty coffee, tea and lassi beverages. This role requires passionate hospitality skills, product knowledge and a polished presentation of all beverages. The barista must uphold the standards of excellence that define JKS, a professional etiquette and be compliant with all health, safety and labor regulations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in opening and closing procedures to prepare the restaurant for service and maintain cleanliness and organization throughout.
- Prepare and serve espresso/coffee drinks, cold brews, specialty teas and lassis to JKS' standards.
- Calibrate grinders, maintain espresso machine cleanliness, and follow daily opening/closing protocols.
- Maintain consistency in beverage quality, texture, temperature, and presentation.
- Follow recipes precisely and accommodate guest preferences or dietary requests (e.g., non-dairy alternatives).
- Conduct mise en place tasks to prepare for service, ensuring all necessary items are readily available for efficient operation.
- Keep back-of-house areas, corridors, and drop-off areas clear and tidy to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for guests and staff.
- Provide attentive and courteous service to guests, communicating confidently and professionally to address their needs and inquiries.
- Complete relevant checklists and adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs) to maintain consistency and quality in service delivery.
- Ensure compliance with food safety and health & safety practices, policies, and procedures, including allergen regulations.
- Take a proactive approach to customer service, anticipating guests' needs and preferences to enhance their dining experience.
- Attend briefings, meetings, and training sessions to stay informed about menu offerings, service protocols, and industry best practices.
- Report any health & safety issues or faulty equipment to front of house management promptly for resolution.
- Minimum (2) years in a high volume restaurant or similar position
- Good time-management and teamwork skills
- Pride in appearance.
- Proactive in learning about food, beverage and wine.
- Warm and professional in communicating with guests.
- Constantly strive to improve personal and professional development.
- Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs.
