Responsibilities

• Oversee assigned cafe functions including payment handling, product preparation and service and general cleanliness.
• Ensure safety, sanitation, customer service and positive customer experiences are maintained at all times.
• Prepare and serve hot and cold beverages utilizing blenders, coffee makers and grinders and espresso machines.
• Check temperatures of freezers, refrigerators and hot holding equipment.
• Describe and promote items to customers in a positive and service-driven way.
• Serve and prepare hot and cold items.
• Routinely clean, restock all food items and supplies.
• Label and date food items as appropriate and create signage daily as directed.
• Lock down cafe at end of meal service and manage cash handling as directed.

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid Food Service Worker Permit (FSWP) from the local health department prior to starting OR obtain a Temporary FSWP no later than the first worked day and a permanent FSWP within 1 week of start date or next available class. (ServSafe meets this requirement) (not required when working in Berkeley County, WV)

Preferred Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is preferred, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.

Experience

• Six months previous food services preferred barista experience.

Physical Requirements

• Able to lift up to 50 lbs., push and pull up to 150 lbs.
• Requires significant walking throughout several buildings.

Working Environment

• Ability to work in a noisy, somewhat chaotic environment (dealing with customers while trying to fill and deliver orders).
• May require transportation of food service products.
• Ability to understand written and oral communication.
• Work in an isolated environment.
• Exposed to outside extreme environments (Summer heat, Winter cold, weather).
