Description

The Dental Assistant reports to the site manager and Assistant Site Manager (if applicable) with oversight from SVP of Dental Services, SVP of Nursing, and Chief Medical Officer. The Dental Assistant is responsible for assisting the dentist(s) and dental hygienist(s) in the direct provision of primary care dental services to patients of the Zufall Health Center (ZHC). The Dental Assistant also handles sterilization, preparation, and inventory control of all instruments and supplies.

Essential Functions, Duties, And Responsibilities

  • Serves as chair-side assistant to dentist or dental hygienist.
  • Prepares operatory for patient treatment following ZHC protocols and directions.
  • Assists patients with minor difficulties, questions, and directions as authorized.
  • Exposes and develops dental radiographs per regulations and protocols.
  • Performs delegated procedures in accordance with regulations and protocols.
  • Maintains dental equipment per instructions and policies.
  • Ensures all Dental Department areas comply with infection control, blood borne pathogens, and safety standards.
  • Maintains materials, equipment, and ensures sterility of clinical items.
  • Manages supplies inventory and monitors patient flow.
  • Assists in proper documentation and record-keeping.
  • Handles clinical and administrative communications professionally.
  • Ensures proper disposal of contaminated materials.
  • Complies with all safety, health, and confidentiality regulations, including HIPAA.
  • Participates in health promotion and disease prevention activities.
  • Travels between sites as needed.
  • Performs other related tasks as directed.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of dental assisting techniques and procedures.
  • Understanding of modern dental materials and handling.
  • Completion of accredited dental assisting course preferred.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • Effective communication skills in English and Spanish.
  • Empathy and professionalism in patient interactions.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and under stressful conditions.
  • Physical ability to perform repetitive movements and manual tasks.
  • Learn and apply trauma-informed care principles.

Education, Training and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Certified or Registered Dental Assistant preferred.
  • Current CPR (BLS) required.
  • Valid Radiology license in NJ.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic medical records.

Salary

$21-$27.82 per hour.
