We are currently seeking a Dental Assistant to join our organization. This full-time position involves working 80 hours per pay period, Monday through Friday.
Purpose of the position: Under immediate supervision, perform routine dental procedures.
A $2500 hiring incentive is available for eligible external candidates. Current employees, contract/temporary workers, and former employees returning within one year are ineligible.
Responsibilities
- Review patient charts and prepare instruments and equipment.
- Perform procedures such as mixing impression material, taking impressions, pouring models, preparing base plates, acrylic trays, and bleaching trays.
- Perform mechanical polishings and fluoride treatments.
- Place rubber dam and remove sutures or excess cement from inlays, crowns, and bridges.
- Chart patient treatment received and provide dental hygiene instructions.
- Perform x-ray procedures and develop films.
- Assist during oral surgical procedures, operating suction equipment, arranging lighting, sponging operative areas, and supplying instruments and materials.
- Schedule patient appointments and maintain equipment and work area cleanliness.
- Sterilize and wrap instruments, order supplies, and prepare records.
- Administer and monitor nitrous oxide (must have completed a course on Nitrous Oxide administration).
- Re-cement temporary restorations and place temporary fillings to promote palliative treatment.
- Etch enamel surfaces, apply sealants (must have completed a course on Sealant placement).
- Perform limited restorative procedures, including placing and adjusting amalgam and composite restorations, and cementing stainless steel crowns (must have completed Restorative Expanded Functions training).
- Place and remove matrix bands, fabricate and cement temporary restorations, and perform mechanical polishing.
- Apply topical medications as prescribed by a dentist.
- Take impressions and perform endodontic procedures such as drying root canals and placing temporary materials.
Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited dental assisting program.
- Current license as a Dental Assistant through the Minnesota Board of Dentistry or pass the Minnesota Licensure Examination within 90 days of employment.
- Basic Life Support certification.
License/Certifications
- Current license as a Dental Assistant or pass the licensure exam within 6 months.
- Completed a course on nitrous oxide inhalation analgesia.
