Pay range - $19 to $22 per hour, based on experience
Position Summary
This position works directly with and under the supervision of the Dentist in providing general dental services. The Dental Assistant assists the Dentist in delivering clinical dental services and outreach community services in metropolitan Detroit.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Knowledge of dental terminology, materials, and instruments; efficient in room setup for restorative, oral surgery, pediatric, crown, and endodontic procedures.
- Preparing patients for dental procedures and instructing them on post-treatment care, diet, and oral hygiene.
- Following all instructions from the dentist regarding patient comfort.
- Managing inventory, stocking supplies, instruments, and medications, and ordering as needed.
- Proficiency in digital x-rays.
- Performing laboratory procedures such as taking dental impressions and pouring plaster models.
- Using four-handed assisting techniques proficiently.
- Maintaining dental equipment and operatories in clean and good condition.
- Adhering to sterilization and disinfection protocols according to OSHA guidelines.
- Cross-training in other dental support roles, such as reception or oral surgery.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Dental Director related to the Dental Department.
- Ensuring personnel protection following OSHA guidelines, including wearing protective clothing, eyewear, and gloves.
- Participating in in-service training, staff meetings, and clinics.
- Actively pursuing continuing education to improve skills.
Minimum Qualifications
- Possession of a valid Michigan Registered Dental Assistant license (preferred).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a dental assisting training program, or
- Minimum 2 years of chairside dental assisting experience (references required).
- Current CPR certification or obtaining it by the end of the introductory period (AHC provides BLS sessions).
- Valid Michigan ID or driver's license.
- Punctuality, accuracy, efficiency, and professionalism.
- OSHA and emergency medicine courses.
