The Dental Assistant is responsible for providing assistance to the Staff Dentist in accordance with policies and standard operating procedures set by the Corporation. The Dental Assistant performs duties under the direct supervision of the Staff Dentist in accordance with the corporation’s established dental health care clinical measures, to ensure maximum oral health.
Responsibilities
- Seats patients in accordance with NHFDC established office protocols.
- Prepares dental operatories in accordance with NHFDC established protocols.
- Cleans and maintains dental operatories and support/processing areas according to NHFDC infection control protocols.
- Sterilizes instruments and equipment according to NHFDC protocols.
- Assists in basic supportive chair-side procedures.
- Charts existing restorations, clinically missing teeth, and appliances within the oral cavity.
- Applies topical drugs as prescribed by the dentist.
- Places and removes matrix.
- Checks and records vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, respiration, etc.).
Performs expanded dental assistant duties including the following:
- Polishes restorations and supra-gingival tooth structure.
- Applies pit and fissure sealant.
- Monitors nitrous oxide anesthesia upon completion of a Board approved course and certification by the Board.
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent, and
- Graduate of an accredited chairside dental assisting program, or
- Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) Certified and
- Certification in Radiology, and
- Certification in General Chair-side Assisting, and
- Certification in Infection Control, and
- CPR/BLS Certified
- Certification in Nitrous Oxide preferred but not required
Experience
- A minimum of two (2) years preferred, but not required
