Dental Services at Mercy Hospital is only one of two dental departments in the entire Cleveland Clinic enterprise. Under the dentist's supervision, the Dental Assistant will perform medical and administrative skills to support patients and dental caregivers. This is a fast-paced environment with back-to-back schedules, requiring a caregiver with a strong work ethic and flexibility. A caregiver in this position works days from 7:30am to 5:00pm. A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Assist with performing assessments and treatments.
- Perform diagnostic radiographs.
- Obtain alginate impressions for diagnostic and/or intra-oral appliances.
- Perform administrative or clerical duties as assigned.
- Maintain dental equipment and medical supplies, including sterilizing instruments, reordering, stocking, cleaning and troubleshooting.
- Maintain examination areas.
- Work in clinical and operating room settings as needed.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- High School Diploma or GED
- State certified as a Dental Assistant Radiographer
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Knowledge and understanding of the dental management of medically compromised patients to include cardiology, oncology, hematology and infectious disease patients
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Two years of dental assisting experience
- Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) certification by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) OR certification as a Certified Ohio Dental Assistant (CODA) administered by the Ohio Commission on Dental Assistant Certification (OCDAC). If you do not hold one of these certifications, one must be obtained within one year of employment.
