Role Description
As a Dental Assistant in our multi-doctor practice, your role is to support the dentists and hygienists in delivering high-quality patient care. You will be responsible for assisting during dental procedures, maintaining a sterile and organized work environment, and ensuring that patients feel comfortable and informed throughout their visit.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Clinical Support:
- Prepare treatment rooms by setting up instruments, materials, and equipment needed for procedures.
- Assist dentists chairside during procedures such as fillings, crowns, extractions, root canals, and implants.
- Take dental radiographs (X-rays) as prescribed and ensure proper technique and safety.
- Ensure patient comfort throughout their visit by explaining procedures and helping them relax during treatments.
- Provide post-operative care instructions and answer any patient questions related to their dental procedures.
- Maintain strict adherence to OSHA and infection control protocols by sterilizing instruments and disinfecting treatment rooms between patients.
- Monitor and maintain the cleanliness of the clinical environment to ensure patient and staff safety.
- Regularly check sterilization equipment and report any issues to the office manager.
- Accurately document patient information, treatment plans, and procedures performed in the patient’s dental record.
- Ensure that patient records are updated and completed before the patient leaves the office.
- Adhere to HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Monitor and manage dental supply inventory to ensure that all materials and instruments are available for daily operations.
- Notify the office manager when supplies are low or if specific items need to be ordered.
- Keep treatment rooms and supply areas organized and stocked.
- Provide patients with information about proper oral hygiene techniques and the importance of routine dental care.
- Communicate post-treatment instructions clearly and concisely to ensure patients understand their care.
- Assist with patient follow-up when necessary to ensure their satisfaction and proper healing.
- Assist with patient check-in and check-out as needed, including collecting payments, verifying insurance, and scheduling appointments.
- Answer phone calls, assist with patient inquiries, and provide administrative support during busy periods or when front-office staff is unavailable.
- Collaborate with other team members to ensure smooth office operations and a positive patient experience.
Qualifications:
- Certification from an accredited Dental Assistant program or On The Job training.
- Radiology certification (as required by state law).
- CPR certification.
- Proficiency in using dental software for patient records (e.g., Dentrix, Eaglesoft).
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Performance Review: Your performance will be reviewed periodically by the Office Manager, Lead Dentist and/or Human Resources Manager based on your ability to effectively carry out the responsibilities outlined in this job description, your teamwork, and your contribution to the overall efficiency and success of the practice.
