Position Overview
Responsible for preparing the clinical cart and supplies for the day’s schedule, driving to health care facilities in the company vehicle, assisting the dentist with treatment setup and cleanup, bringing in/out equipment, and maintaining instrument sterlization and restocking as needed.
Qualifications
- Dental Certificate and X-ray Certification required.
- Two years’ experience as a dental assistant or equivalent preferred, but willing to train.
- Knowledge of dental instruments, procedures, sterilization, and infection control.
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record; California or Arizona license as applicable.
- Familiar with basic computer usage for online training, patient record access, and email.
- Must be able to lift 75 pounds.
Duties
- Weekday commitment: No call or weekends.
- Assist dentist in the post-acute care setting.
- Round daily at multiple facilities.
- Available for frequent overtime due to varied travel distances.
Essential Job Functions
- Prepare clinical cart and supplies for the day’s schedule.
- Drive to and from health care facilities in the company vehicle.
- Check in with social services upon arrival at facilities.
- Provide check-in and check-out forms.
- Communicate with facility staff as needed.
- Verify patient identification prior to treatment.
- Assist the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures.
- Inquire about patient medical history.
- Take patient vital signs at the doctor’s request (e.g., blood pressure and pulse).
- Implement infection control protocols; prepare and sterilize instruments and equipment.
- Help patients feel comfortable before, during, and after dental treatment.
- Explain post-treatment oral care instructions; provide oral hygiene guidance.
- Maintain patient records with accuracy and confidentiality.
- Complete patient summaries and other reports as needed.
- Order supplies as needed.
- Load equipment, supplies, lab cases, and charts into the vehicle and transport to and from facilities.
- Ensure all equipment, instruments, and supplies are accounted for before exiting a facility.
- Maintain cleanliness and inventory of mobile carts and units.
- Maintain chart/record security during facilities visits and transit.
- Handle and account for lab cases as needed.
- Operate and maintain the company vehicle in a safe, clean manner per company policy.
- Participate in all required company training.
- Only perform duties permitted by the scope of licensure as a Dental Assistant.
Skills/Experience/Licensure Requirements
- Two years’ experience as a dental assistant or equivalent is preferred, but training is possible.
