JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision, you are responsible for complex repairs and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, HVAC, and plumbing systems for the Hospital in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operating manuals, department policies, along with applicable codes and regulations. Provides maintenance necessary to create a pleasant, comfortable, and safe environment for patients, staff, and the public. Performs duties associated with the hospital safety program.

JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONAL SKILLS

ELECTRICAL

Maintains, repairs, and installs electrical systems and equipment. Installs electrical circuits of various voltages and phases in accordance with the National Electric Code and all other required codes and standards. Demonstrates knowledge of the electrical distribution system by repairing/replacing fixtures, switches, ballasts, bulbs, and other electrical components. Performs preventative maintenance on electrical circuits and equipment. Must be able to read and interpret electrical blueprints.

HVAC

Ability to inspect, maintain, repair, and install heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment throughout the Health System.

MECHANICAL

Maintains, monitors, and performs minor repairs to facility mechanical systems, including but not limited to boilers, chillers, refrigeration systems, emergency generators, nurse call systems, fire alarm systems and the pneumatic tube system. Must be able to read and interpret mechanical blueprints.

PLUMBING

Demonstrates knowledge of facility plumbing systems, including distribution and valves, by fitting pipes, repairing/replacing fixtures and opening blocked drains.

Performs Other Duties as Assigned:

Attends mandatory in-service, staff meetings, and actively participates in self-education. Completes all required competency assessments on time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • High school education or equivalent is preferred.
  • Appropriate trade, technical, or vocational training is preferred but not required.
Experience:
  • 1 to 3 years' experience in healthcare or similar maintenance is preferred but not required.
  • Excellent human relations and oral/written communication skills.
Licensure/Certification:
  • Any trade certificate is preferred but not required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Heavy Work:
  • Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs. with a maximum lift of 100 lbs.
