Job Objective
Provide appropriate maintenance for corporation vehicles to be available to complete their designated assignments and duties.
Performance Duties/Responsibilities
- Record and maintain information about all corporation owned vehicles including maintenance, repair history, inspection records etc…
- Inspect and maintain a file record of all driver maintenance check sheets.
- Perform repairs as necessary to lighting system, electrical system, seat cover replacement/repair, minor paint/body repairs.
- Perform routine maintenance on all vehicles including:
- Oil changes
- Lubrication
- Fuel filters
- Tire wear and air pressure
- Assures adequate maintenance and repair records are maintained for district vehicles and equipment.
- Recommends major equipment and vehicle replacements
- Is responsible for preparing for passage, all vehicles requiring annual inspection by the state police.
- Perform monthly inspection on all vehicles.
- Performs troubleshooting and midrange repairs on all corporation vehicles.
- Inventory management and control: Sets up and supervises receipt and issuance of parts and supplies.
- Analyzed requirements and makes recommendations on schedule for preventative maintenance program for district vehicles and equipment.
- Maintain related records and reports on vehicle maintenance operations.
- Perform road testing to determine roadworthiness.
- Recommend replacement of equipment and materials for department.
- Provide on-the-job training for bus drivers when requested.
- Maintain appropriate appearance.
- Ensure own regular and prompt attendance.
- Effectively complete other job performance criteria as assigned by transportation director.
- Promote good public relations for the school district and community.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a mechanic for large engine trucks.
- Formal training and/or certification in areas associated with vehicular maintenance.
- Education: High School diploma or GED. Degree in Diesel Mechanics or equivalent preferred.
- Language skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations.
- Mathematical skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- ASE certifications preferred- employer will help with obtaining these certifications.
- Must have a commercial driver’s license.
- Other skills and abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and board of education policies.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk and/or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as bus parts and chemical containers. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to be able to hear conversations in quiet and noisy environments.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical bus and equipment. The employee may frequently work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, gases, fumes and sprays. The employee frequently works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and occasionally very loud.
