Job Summary
This is a field-based role requiring daily travel to job sites in New York State, including Mayfield, Lowville, Middletown, and Sidney.
The experienced Field Mechanic will perform repairs and maintenance of fleet vehicles and construction equipment, including pick-ups, bucket trucks, digger derricks, dozers, trenchers, excavators, backhoes, trailers, loaders, and related utility construction machinery.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and service of fleet vehicles at scheduled intervals.
- Document PM reports and repair logs accurately.
- Work with equipment brands such as Ford, Peterbilt, John Deere, Altec, Terex, Versalift, International, Cat, and Vermeer.
- Utilize laptops, smart devices, and software tools effectively.
- Troubleshoot electrical issues.
- Install and maintain telematics equipment like Zonar.
- Conduct hydraulic and engine repairs, air brake repairs, chassis repairs, and aerial device repairs.
- Perform field welding and fabrication on dirt and rock engagement equipment.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
Qualifications
- Experience repairing diesel engines and hydraulic systems.
- Willingness to travel 100% of the time; travel expenses reimbursed.
- Provided mechanic rig for daily travel to sites.
- Experience repairing air brakes; certification preferred.
- Skilled in welding and small fabrication.
- At least 3 years of experience as a mechanic or service technician.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and walk long distances over uneven surfaces.
- Flexibility to work overtime with short notice.
- Class A CDL required; fifth wheel endorsement is a plus.
Starting hourly rate ranges from $34.86 to $41.43 based on experience and CDL-A qualification.
