The Mechanic diagnoses and repairs diesel tractors, trailers and other wheeled vehicles by performing the following duties.

Job Responsibilities

• Examines and diagnoses vehicle problems, and repairs according to generally accepted methods
• Discusses extensive or difficult in-depth repairs with Terminal Manager and/or Supervisor
• Demonstrates and enforces CEMEX safety policies and regulations to all mechanics (e.g., lockout/tagout, hazard assessment)
• Ensures shop and repairs comply with OSHA regulations
• Performs routine scheduled maintenance outlined on PM checklist sheets
• Plans all routine work procedures
• Raises vehicle with hydraulic jack or hoist to access components
• Removes components for repair or replacement (e.g., alternators, starters, water pumps, radiators, transmissions, brakes, etc.)
• Disassembles components, inspects parts for wear, and determines cause of failure
• Troubleshoots and repairs hydraulic systems and components
• Inspects and replaces parts such as clutches, wheel seals, brakes, bearings, etc.
• Overhauls and rebuilds serviceable components
• Some regional travel may be required
• Diagnoses and repairs electrical systems and circuitry
• Performs occasional cutting and welding with gas and electric welding equipment
• Replaces and adjusts headlights, and installs/repairs accessories (e.g., radios, heaters, mirrors, wiper blades)
• Enters work orders for equipment inventory
• Adheres to CEMEX, OSHA, and MSHA rules and regulations
• Wears proper safety equipment on plant grounds
• Meets or exceeds company safety standards
• Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 3 years related experience, training, or equivalent combination

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Ability to understand, interpret, and execute instructions in verbal and written form
• Bi-lingual Spanish a plus
• Ability to identify hazardous situations and follow supervisor instructions
• Problem-solving skills with multiple variables
• Possession of a valid Driver’s License; Class A or B CDL preferred or the ability to obtain within 180 days
• Forklift certification or willingness to obtain
• TWIC preferred or willingness to obtain

Working Conditions

• Job involves sitting most of the time and occasional walking or standing

Physical Requirements

• Walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing
• Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; up to 20 pounds frequently; up to 10 pounds constantly
• Regularly required to talk and hear to communicate with employees/visitors
