Job Summary
The Mechanic diagnoses and repairs diesel tractors, trailers and other wheeled vehicles by performing the following duties.

Job Responsibilities
- Examines and diagnoses vehicle problems, and repairs according to generally accepted methods
- Discusses extensive or difficult in-depth repairs with Terminal Manager and/or Supervisor
- Demonstrates and enforces CEMEX safety policies and regulations to all mechanics (e.g., lockout/tagout, hazard assessment)
- Ensures shop and repairs comply with OSHA regulations
- Performs routine scheduled maintenance outlined on PM checklist sheets
- Plans all routine work procedures
- Raises vehicle with hydraulic jack or hoist to access components
- Removes components for repair or replacement (e.g., alternators, starters, water pumps, radiators, transmissions, brakes, etc.)
- Disassembles components, inspects parts for wear, and determines cause of failure
- Troubleshoots and repairs hydraulic systems and components
- Inspects and replaces parts such as clutches, wheel seals, brakes, bearings, etc.
- Overhauls and rebuilds serviceable components
- Some regional travel may be required
- Diagnoses and repairs electrical systems and circuitry
- Performs occasional cutting and welding with gas and electric welding equipment
- Replaces and adjusts headlights, and installs/repairs accessories (e.g., radios, heaters, mirrors, wiper blades)
- Enters work orders for equipment inventory
- Adheres to CEMEX, OSHA, and MSHA rules and regulations
- Wears proper safety equipment on plant grounds
- Meets or exceeds company safety standards
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 3 years related experience, training, or equivalent combination
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Ability to understand, interpret, and execute instructions in verbal and written form
- Bi-lingual Spanish a plus
- Ability to identify hazardous situations and follow supervisor instructions
- Problem-solving skills with multiple variables
- Possession of a valid Driver’s License; Class A or B CDL preferred or the ability to obtain within 180 days
- Forklift certification or willingness to obtain
- TWIC preferred or willingness to obtain
Working Conditions
- Job involves sitting most of the time and occasional walking or standing
Physical Requirements
- Walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing
- Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; up to 20 pounds frequently; up to 10 pounds constantly
- Regularly required to talk and hear to communicate with employees/visitors
